How to Get to Die For Skin ; Guest Blog by Kitty

Hi! My name is Kitty, or atleast that is what I go by, I run a Hair Care Blog but today I will be guest blogging about how I have gotten “to die for skin” as many of my friends call it.

We all want to be that girl with glowing skin, with no break outs and no makeup needed to look flawless. What if I told you that last summer, I was that girl?

That’s right! The only makeup I wore was eye shadow & mascara (no foundation, no cover up, no powder, nothing!) and I’m here to tell you how you can have flawless, pimple free skin.

 

Your Diet Is a Big Deal

I know most of you probably do not want to hear this, but our diet is a big deal when it comes to our skin, last year I went raw for the summer (meaning I did not eat anything that had been cooked) Since I was living at home with my parents my eating schedule was based around them. I would eat raw when my dad(who works away from home) wasn’t there, when he was I would still eat healthy, but I was a little more lenient.

  • Increase the amount of fruits and raw veggies you eat; I started each day with a strawberry- coconut smoothie : the coconut helps to flush out any toxins in your body and upped my intake of fresh fruits and veggies, as well as lots of “raw” cakes, made from nuts, honey and fruit most of the time.
  • Drink more water; Other than eating raw veggies and more fruit I was(and still am) drinking 8-9 glasses of water a day, half with fresh lemon juice(something that will help flush out toxins and help you lose weight!)
  • Take Dietary Supplements; taking “stinging nettle” pills(something I swear by to help get a flawless complexion)
  • Avoid Sugary/ Greasy Foods.  I also credit keeping away from sugary, greasy foods for three weeks at a time, taking a week off to eat bread and maybe a pizza, then going back to my “raw” eating.

Eating healthy isn’t the only thing we can do for our skin, If you shave, make sure you do it correctly and be gentle to the skin. I’ll walk you through my personal routine, which helps me to have super soft skin; everywhere on my body – not just my face.

  1. Hop in to warm-hot water and relax for a minute or two, this will give your pores time to open up; allowing for a closer shave.
  2. Grab some soap and a scrub brush(or anything you can exfoliate with) and get exfoliating! But be gentle, you don’t to kill your skin, just take off any dirt or dead skin so your razor won’t get clogged.
  3. Try to keep your razors new! they will work better. But now its time to shave! Try to shave as little as you can so you don’t irritate the skin. If you shave once a week, I suggest that you buy a new razor each week, or change your razor blades regularly.
  4. Once you have finished shaving grab your condition(yes the stuff you use for your hair) and massage it into your legs for a silky smooth finish!
  5. And just one last thing! Before getting out of the shower run your legs(or anywhere else you are shaving) under cold water to help close your pores back up and prevent the hair from growing back as quickly as normal.

Optionally: once you are out of the shower, a great at home “after shave” is lemon juice – be warned it will sting like a bitch the first couple times!  This is honestly the tip I recommend most as it makes my legs feel amazingly smooth after my skin absorbs it.

Bonus tip: Try waiting longer in between shaving, it will start to take longer for the hair to grow back, I promise this does work if you give it time! I only have to shave once every two weeks now! and I stay silky smooth(meaning no stubble) for 2-3 days!

Moisturizing

Showered and shave? Check.

Now a couple tips on moisturizing!I will be honest with you, I don’t even buy moisturizer any more, the 3 products I use for moisturizing are: Olive oil, Coconut oil and Shea butter, all of which are amazing.They are all great in their own way, but the oils can be, well a little oily so make sure you give yourself time to “dry” before putting on clothes, if you’re in a bit of a rush cocoa or shea butter will dry much quicker and get you out the door faster.

One of my favorite things to do if I want to make sure my skin stays silky smooth(mostly on my hands) is I will apply olive oil before going to bed and sleep in gloves or other tight clothing, I wake up the next morning and feel like I have  the softest skin ever!

Don’t forget to moisturize both from the inside and the out –  make sure to drink your water!

DIY

Lastly, I want to leave you with a few simple DIY skin treatments that I have used and swear they have worked wonders on me!

For Dry/Rough Feet

When I need to deal with rough/dry feet I warm up some olive oil and mix in a little coconut and peppermint(to get the blood flowing to my feet) and give myself a massage with the oil, apply a pair of socks and forget about it until I take the socks off, and my dry/rough feet are gone!

Exfoliating Facial Wash

Mix:

  • a little lemon juice
  • and brown sugar.

Use right away.

Exfoliating Body Wash

Mix

  • 1 tablespoon  lemon juice,
  • 1 teaspoon body wash,
  • and a pinch of oats together in a bowl,

Use right away.

Exam Strategies/Tips

The Best Tips for Before, During and After your exams

Weeks Before:

  1. Plan a Study Timetable so you know when you’re supposed to be studying and what.. It makes it WAY easier to stick to a plan.
  2. Make Study Cards:  Study Cards are Index Cards which you write definitions and vocab on, so you can test yourself. The answer is on one side and the question or word is on the other
  3. Make Study Guides: These are Notes that you can make from condensing powerpoint presentations your teacher has given you, or by reading and outlining the main points from your textbook.
study cards, revision guides and highlighters are your BFFs for now!

After you’ve done most of your revision is the time to join/form study groups to help go over the information you’ve already learned at home. This is a good time to do past paper questions.

The Day Before:

  1. Don’t stress, Don’t cram. I usually go out, or do something else to take my mind off of the impending exam, and just take study guides and flash cards with me so I can flip through them.
  2. Going for some light exercise like a walk can clear your head. Or you could go for a run if you’re into that.
  3. Lay Out what you’re wearing the next day, If it’s your uniform, make sure you ironed it. If its normal clothes – make sure they’re super comfy.
  4. Pack Your Bag; make sure you’ve got all the stationary you need, any documents – like something with a candidate number on it; etc, a bottle of water, painkillers etc, your ‘Just In Case’. Put all of them in your bag, and leave your bag in a convenient place for the next morning.
  5. Don’t discuss what you know/don’t know with your friends before the exam. It can leave you feeling really freaked out.

In the Exam:

  1. If you’re religious you can say a prayer before it starts (:
  2. Write down any information you’re required to ( candidate number, name, whatever) when you’re told to do so.
  3. Read ANY instructions on the booklet carefully before starting. Usually I do this twice.
  4. Read through the whole paper first. This will give your brain a little time to think about the answers subconsciously while you go along reading the rest.
  5. Start answering away. Most times you needn’t necessarily answer them in chronological order, once you number them well. Do what comes easiest, and then go to the harder ones when you have a bit more confidence.
  6. If it’s multiple choice and you genuinely don’t know the answer.. guess. There are usually 2 which are similar, one correct and one incorrect. You still have a 50% chance of getting it right, and I kinda like those odds.
  7. If you finish early, check over it MULTIPLE TIMES, because honestly I’ve noticed so many careless mistakes by rushing.
  8. After you’re done checking.. you can go to sleep. That’s IT. you’re done (:  If I can’t sleep in an exam I sometimes plan what I want to do, eat or blog.

After the Exam:

  1. If you have spare time when you go home (e.g. you don’t have an exam for a week.) This is the opportune time you should write some blog posts, if you write your own blog. You can write a few and set them to upload across the next few days to buy you some time to study in.
  2. Relax for that night, if you have another exam in the morning, try and look over your study guides, if not.. CHILL.  You can resume studying from tomorrow if you have more exams.

I for one know I’ll praise the LORD when exams are done, but this helps me get through them as easily as I can. (: I seriously can’t wait :D!

7 reasons You’re Failing in School

Since it’s exam time, I thought it’d be suitable to post the top 7 reasons people fail exams, and how to fix them:

  • You Didn’t Organize:

Organization is key to success. It’s incredibly important to:
keep all school materials together.
pack your bag the night before.
write down all tasks you need to do.

Order helps you to be able to focus on what you need to do and it makes it WAY easier when it’s test time.

  • You Didn’t Get Enough Sleep:

Sleeping is essential when studying, to allow your brain time to process the information you’ve gone over. If you only sleep 4-5 hours at night, your brain isn’t working towards its full potential. Shut down all your electronics even an hour earlier at night and go to sleep and you’ll see a marked difference in your ability to focus in school the next day.

  • You Didn’t Get the Right Nutrients

As hard as you may study, if your body is unhealthy; your brain function will be affected. It’s tempting when studying to just grab junk food and go back to studying, but your brain/body don’t function at their best when you’re eating non-nutritious meals. Next time you’re studying grab an some fruit and a glass of water, instead of a chocolate bar and soda and you’ll notice that you don’t experience a ‘crash’ like you do when you eat candy.

 
  • You Didn’t Plan Your Studies
A thing that really helps is if you keep track of due dates and test dates on calendars and in planners. When you can see just how much time you have and what tasks you have to do, it makes it much easier to plan what you have to do and when.
It also may be helpful to make a spreadsheet on your computer to make a ‘study schedule’ or drawing it out; if you’re the type of person who needs to have more detail in order to stay on track
  • You Didn’t Utilize Your Time
It’s not about the time you spend studying, but rather the amount of content you can remember when you’re done.
So instead of reading the ENTIRE BOOK over and over, read it chapter by chapter and make condensed notes of the important points. When it comes time for the exam, it’ll be much easier to revise and you won’t have to pore over your boring book. Also
– make study cards
– get someone to test you
  • You Didn’t Pay Attention to How Your Teacher Teaches

A lot of times the way a test is structured is based on your teacher’s specific teaching styles. As they vary and the test is usually set independently by them, you should make sure you understand what they mean.

It is also important that if you DON’T understand that you ask them for help.
 
  • You Weren’t Motivated Enough

It’s easy to lose motivation when studying, because it can feel like you’re not getting anywhere. The key is to set achievable short term goals, instead of having unrealistic goals that’ll demotivate you. 

You should always keep in mind your long term goal- e.g. being a lawyer,doctor,teacher etc.
If you don’t know what you want to do, just focus on working hard to finish school, and then take it from there.
